Gaming Streamer Dashboard

Project Overview

OPG was founded in 2014, right as Twitch was exploding, and right around the time Amazon purchased the gaming site for close to $1 billion. OPG manages streamers and takes a cut of their revenue.

To better illustrate what they do the CEO explained, “You wouldn’t expect someone like Tom Cruise to walk into a meeting room and negotiate his contract — he’s got people for that. Streamers are getting to the point that they need that, so they can focus on their performance.”

Role:

User Research, Wireframing, Prototyping, User Experience and User Interface

tools used:

Figma, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Invision

The Story

The team at OPG brought me onboard as a contrator to design the admin panel and dashboard for their gaming streamers dashboard. The goal was to enable users to easily view the game streams, pull data and downloads, sort by game and download easy-to-sort graphs that compile data over time using the dashboard.

design process

I used a 5-stage Design Thinking model proposed by the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design at Stanford (the “d. school”). The stages of this Design Thinking process are as follows:
1. Empathise, 2. Define, 3. Ideate, 4. Prototype, 5. Test.

user pain points: Empathise

Coming from a gaming background I was aware of the celebrity gaming streamers posses in their circle. However, I was unaware of the business aspect of it.
To get a better understanding of the streamer’s needs, OPG allowed me to conduct user interviews with their clients to define what requirements were essential, data needed for their success and how they best retain information through visual representations.

USER RESEARCH: define

I conducted research on Twitch and the industry to fill any knowledge gaps. Additionally, I meet with cross functional teams to go over user research, personas, interview notes, feature ideation and prioritization. From there we defined the requirements for the admin panel and dashboard

ideation

The screen to the right is where we started, so the ideation stage of this project allowed us the oppertunity to really improve upon the previous user experience.

The small team and I gathered, set a 2-hour time limit, quantity-over-quality focus, ban on distractions such as phones, and “There are no bad ideas” mindset. We took each other’s ideas and built on them and recognize patterns.

Prototyping

I took my finding from my research and ideation stage and had 2-1/2 weeks to design the first round of prototypes to show the key stakeholders how the final product would look and function.

We made subsequent iteration to the design before our developer Jeremy rolled out the final product, saving the company both time and money.

build and test

I was very fortunate to have worked on the same team with the developer from the very beginning of the project. This gave me foresight into any development or accessibility issues during the ideation stages.

Once final deliverables were signed off by all key stakeholders, I created asset preparation and style guides for Jeremy.
After the build was complete, I took part in usability testing.
